Updated: Oct 4, 2021

Hey everyone! Lexie put together a summer reading list! Swipe through to see the list!

Book 1: River God by Wilbur Smith

  • This book will make you ugly cry in public

  • It’s set in ancient Egypt and is full of sex, violence, magic, love & friendship

  • Definitely not a book for little kids but its the best book I’ve ever read

  • Difficulty rating: 5/5

Book 2: Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

  • This book is perfect for kids with ADHD and learning differences like me

  • Like Harry Potter but with Ancient Greek mythology

  • Easy read for kids 12+, fun read for adult lovers of Greek myth

  • Difficulty rating: 2/5

Book 3: The Iliad, The Robert Fagles translation

  • The epic poem that inspired the Brad Pitt Troy, but actually so much better

  • Read if you want to sound like a Classicist but not spend 4 years in school

  • Could read as a kid but better for high school level and above

  • Difficulty rating: 4/5

Book 4: A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes

  • Greek myths retold from the perspective of famous women

  • A feminist guide to famously unfair Greek stories to humanize them

  • Great read for kids and adults alike, might want a little background on myths

  • Difficulty rating: 2/5

Book 5: Eragon by Christoper Paolini

  • Fulfills the dragon owning, raising, and riding fantasy of all kids

  • A less well written Lord of the Rings heavily influenced by Norse myth

  • Great for introducing kids to the fantasy genre and to reading for fun

  • Difficulty rating: 2/5
