Dr. John Hyland

John Hyland is a Professor in the Department of History at Christopher Newport University, where he has taught since 2006. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago’s Committee in the Ancient Mediterranean World, and his research examines Achaemenid Persian imperialism and interactions with the Greek city-states. He is the author of Persian Interventions: the Achaemenid Empire, Athens, and Sparta 450-386 BCE, and his forthcoming projects include Brill’s Companion to War in the Ancient Iranian Empires, as well as a history of Persia’s Greek campaigns.
