Alan Lenzi (Ph.D., Brandeis University, 2006) is Professor of History at University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. He is the author of Secrecy and the Gods: Secret Knowledge in Ancient Mesopotamia and Biblical Israel (2008), An Introduction to Akkadian Literature: Contexts and Content (2019), and Suffering in Babylon: Ludlul Bēl Nēmeqi and the Scholars, Ancient and Modern (2023). He is the editor of Reading Akkadian Prayers and Hymns: An Introduction (2011) and co-editor with Jonathan Stökl of Divination, Politics, and Ancient Near Eastern Empires (2014). He and Amar Annus produced a handbook edition of Ludlul bēl nēmeqi in 2010. His current research focuses on Akkadian prayers, especially those labeled with the šuʾila rubric (http://shuilas.org).
