Happy OXI Day everyone! “Oxi” (ochi) means NO in Greek. October 28th is a national holiday in Greece and Cyprus commemorating Greece’s entrance into World War II. On this day in October 1940, the Prime Minister of Greece, Ioannis Metaxas denied Italian fascist Benito Mussolini’s demand to allow Italian troops to cross the border into Greece. This refusal and the celebrations of it are meant to represent the bravery, solidarity, and heroism of the Greek people. Please join us in celebrating this day! So raise a glass and say υγεία μας (yia mas)
